So what can we do?

A lot has already happened — and a lot more is coming. The decision to exit Tri-State has been made, contracts have been signed, and risks are now real. What happens next depends on member involvement. This is still your cooperative, but only if members act.

We can’t do this alone.
We need you.

Talk to people

The biggest reason this happened is simple: most people were never told what was really going on. For decades, La Plata Electric Association was trusted to deliver affordable, reliable power with local accountability.

Many members understandably assumed the board was doing exactly that. They weren’t.

Talk to your friends, neighbors, coworkers, and business owners. Share what’s changed, what it costs, and what’s at risk..

Speak up

The board of directors claim they have member support for their actions. Why? They sent out a survey before they voted on the buyout and got 32 responses… you read that right.

We need people who are concerned about rising rates, transparency and financial stability to attend board meeting and let their voices be heard.

Silence gets interpreted as consent.

Support

We have several things currently in the works: quality candidates, by-law changes, petitions and lawsuits. These efforts require time, expertise, and financial support.

If you can contribute in any way, it makes a difference.

Volunteer

In this most crucial election, we need people to help knock on doors, gather signatures, and to attend board meetings. We can’t do this alone, but we are going to bring about change, and the fight is worth it!

Why change now?

Because the hard part is ahead.

The exit payment is done. The contracts are signed. Now comes:

  • Managing long-term rate risk
  • Rebuilding reserves
  • Navigating market volatility
  • Making expensive infrastructure decisions

Responsible leadership matters more now than ever.

Without engaged members and a board committed to transparency, affordability, and local control, the consequences will fall squarely on ratepayers- households, retirees, farmers, and small businesses alike.

Take Action Today

LPEA’s buyout means higher rates, fewer options, and zero transparency. Let’s reclaim our co-op before it’s too late.

This is not about politics.
It’s not about personalities.

It’s about whether a member-owned cooperative actually serves its members. Affordable, reliable power starts with us.
